homemade peach jam

I may have a new hobby. Yes, another to add to the list of 1,345,215 things that I enjoy doing. Canning! Travis and I ventured into canning when we were trying to make his barbecue sauce shelf stable. So we packed the mason jars full of sauce and boiled them, then sat back and listened to the "ping, ping, ping" and they self sealed. So gratifying to hear that little sound.
My sister in law recently bought a new house in the area and was lucky enough that the property came with 3 mature fruit trees, two apricot and one peach. We feasted on apricots (one of my favorites) prior to out adventures in canning, otherwise i'd be slathering apricot jam on every food item at every meal.
Don't get me wrong, when we visited the new place a few weeks later we were lucky enough to pull about 20lbs of beautifully ripe peaches from her tree. She didn't want them and sent them home with us. I immediately knew I wanted to try my hand at making peach jam and canning it, and so I did!
We followed the directions on the back of the Sure Jell pectin package. "If its not broke don't fix it" was our first time jam making motto. And it turned out SO GOOD!!! I made a whopping 21 jars of jam and our tiny family of three has already gone through almost three jars.

I also had to have labels for the jars. Im kinda obsessed with sticker paper and making custom tags and labels and stuff. It makes it look so much more official. I came across this amazing site called the jam labelizer where you can customize different designs and print them. Super easy, super cute. I named my jam after the little one-of course.
I also DIY'ed a little something extra to go with the jam I gave to a few friends. There's a sneak peak below, but I'll share more about that later this week. Now don't be intimidated, go make some jam!

yo gabba gabba thank you

Ella's Yo Gabba Gabba 2nd birthday party was a huge success! I'll share pics of the party soon, but until then I wanted to share the "thank you" card that I designed for all her guests.

I really enjoy designing invites and thank you's. Here is a thank you I designed recently for a friends little boy. Can you guess the theme of his 2nd birthday party...yep, Sesame Street!

Hope you're all having a great week!

xo,
Laura

happy birthday Ella June, you're TWO!

Happy Birthday my sweet baby girl. I can't believe you're TWO years old today. You're truly the most beautiful child and I'm blessed beyond measure by your loving spirited personality. You have the best parts of your daddy and I, and we love you SO MUCH!
Happy Birthday Junebug!
We're having a party this weekend, and its Yo Gabba Gabba themed! Yay! I'll be sure to post pictures next week after the party, but until then...here's the party invite and water bottle labels I designed for the party.

the little one

Gosh, she's just the cutest thing, and picked the white beanie out herself from my closet. This kid has good taste! I adore her, runny nose and all.
Happy Monday!

where does the time go?

Wow. Where does the time go? Ella June is 18 months old today and I can't believe it'll only be 6 more months until her 2nd birthday party. She is a doll. The most perfect, beautiful, snuggly child. I love her to pieces.
 Of course this is how I find her most days. Pulling everything out of baskets and every toy she owns out of bins. She's into EVERYTHING these days.
She loves Minnie Mouse, watching Yo Gabba Gabba, Barney, Kipper and The Backyardagains, going to the park, riding the swing, and going down the slide, and always asks for a bow after we get dressed in the mornings. She also had her first trip to Chuck-E-Cheese and loved every second of it.
She also loves to say "no" to me then close her eyes real tight when I scold her as if she can't see or hear me. Then when I try and keep it serious she cracks a smile. Lovely, huh? I think we have a jokester on our hands.

Happy 18 Months Junebug!
I love you!

{Ella's 1 Year Portraits}

This post is going to be picture heavy, but the cuteness overload will be worth it. :) I recently took Ella June's 1 year portraits. I wanted to go for classic, simple, and outdoors. At my baby shower I received a beautiful halter tutu dress made by Christa from Mustard Seed Fabric & Furniture which I knew that I'd be photographing Ella in it for her 1 year pics.

While I did minor in Fine Art Photography in college, i'm no professional photographer. It's always just been a fun hobby for me. In case anyone is curious, I used a Nikon D60 camera for these photos, and they were post processed in Photoshop using Florabella actions.

Daddy and Ella.

Isn't she a beauty? Gosh, every day I thank God for her. She really is the most precious child.

Oh, and here's one that dad took during out shoot.

{props props and more props}

You're probably asking what that hideous styrofoam head is doing below. I picked it up at a garage sale for free over a year ago. It made it's way over 300 miles during our move earlier this summer, {try explaining to your husband why you must have the styrofoam head come with you, ha!}, and I knew i'd have a use for it eventually.

With the boutique i'm a part of coming up, I immediately thought that this would be great for modeling my hair clips and headbands on my table. I had some pink tissue paper {just plain tissue for gift bags} lying around and my trusty Mod Podged, so I made like I was 5 years old again doing paper mache, and covered my styrofoam head.
Please excuse the horrible 'before' photo, it was dark, gloomy and raining when I took this. Bad natural light means a crummy photo, but it was amazing weather!
What a transformation! Slightly shiny, new, bright, cheery, and most importantly useful. Can you tell that these two photos {'after' and 'in action'} we're taken on the day following the storm? Sunny skies, good natural light, much nicer photos. :)
Here it is modeling one of my Junebug Headbands. It's perfect! I'll be sure to post a pic of it in my table display next month.

{baby vintage}

Today Junebug and I spent the afternoon at the thrift store searching for vintage goodies. I needed to find some vintage trims and ribbons for some upcoming projects and Junebug needed to find herself a few vintage items for her wardrobe. The good news is that we both succeeded in the afternoon's quest. Below are a few pics of the vintage baby and children's clothing we found. They range from size 3-6 months to 24 months, and everything was under 5 dollars. Yep, can't beat that!
Isn't this yellow embroidered cardigan just the CUTEST thing ever? The detail on the shoulders is really sweet, and each button has a ribbon bow at the buttonhole.
These are size 24 months, but they are really darling in person. They are yellow and red embroidered and the vintage fabric has the softest worn in feeling.
I couldn't resist this tank top. The little flowers are darling.
It's hard to see but this dress has a crocheted red strawberry near the hemline along with some embroidery. And don't you love the laced ruffle at the sleeve? Size 12 months.
Vintage bloomers with shirring at the leg. Sigh...so cute!
This corduroy dress is darling in person, and the color is to die for. I think i'll need to give it a little detail though...flower? ruffle? something.
Purple gingham shorts/bloomers. I'm thinking with the tank from above they'd be the cutest summer outfit.
And for mama, some vintage fabric, ribbon, zippers, trims and lace. I even scored a couple sheets of tulle for some new clips I'm working on. I love searching for a good find. Everything total was 13 dollars. Yep, mine and Junebug's together. What a steal.

{Introducing Miss Ella June}

Wow! It's been EIGHT weeks since i've last posted. And it's been the best 8 weeks of my life. I'm happy to announce that on Memorial Day, 5/31/2010 we welcomed the sweetest little girl into the world. Her name....Ella June. I affectionately like to call her my "Little Lady" or "Junebug".

The last 2 months have been filled with mommy duties, as I'm now a full time stay at home mom, er...stay at home blogger/Etsy shop owner/mom (with the mom part coming first, of course). I'll need to jump back on the bloggin' wagon here shortly. Sorry for the break...we'll just think of it as maternity leave. Oh, and she's wearing the girly hospital hat I re-fashioned for her. Isn't she adorable in it?

It's a little outdated, but below are a few of her newborn photos, done by the extremely talented Brooke Trogdon at Harmony Hill Photography. Check out her site, and if you're in Northern California be sure to contact her, she takes the prettiest photos, I promise!
